Quarterly Final results week 3
The numbers keep on rising at the Northampton final with a record 124 players sitting down to take their seats, all keen to become today’s quarterly final champion.
First out was Sean Pollitt from the Cock Inn in Werrington who bust out of the tournament before to food break. His exit was announced to everyone in the card-room and earned him rapturous applause from his fellow competitors!
Food was served at about 3pm and on return of the players, things started to heat up with players exiting the tournament at a steady rate. At about 8pm we were down to the final table, with the finishing positions as follows:
1st – Gareth Shreeve from the Rose and Crown Peterborough
2nd – Andrew Foley from Cafe Cone Leche and SL Football Club
3rd – Dan Julians from the Griffin in Toddington
4th – Rod Massey from Spinning Wheel
5th – Chris Moody from the Angel
6th – Kevin McDonnell from Cafe Cone Leche
7th – Robert Walton from the Horseshoe in Oakham
8th – James Northover from the Thornhill Arms
9th – Jayne Webster from the Wyboston Lakes Golf Club
10th – Chris Latta from Cafe Cone Leche and SL Football Club
Gareth, who is the landlord’s son at the Rose and Crown and also the TD on their poker evening, had been in a commanding chip lead for some time. When it came to the heads up battle between him and Andrew this didn’t take too long to get to a final outcome.
The final hand between Gareth and Andrew saw the both push all in with Gareth easily having his counterpart covered on chips. Gareth showed a pair of 10’s with Andrew A, 2 suited. Gareth came out the victor as he hit the straight and took the £500 winner’s cheque along with the certificate and trophy.
Congratulations to Gareth and the other top 13 players, who we will look forward to seeing at the National Final this September 17th and 18th at Star City. Invitations for this event will be sent out early August.
Thanks to all the staff at the casino, for continuing to make this a great event each quarter and look forward to seeing you all for ‘for the big one’ in September.
Despite big problems on the underground, play got under way at 2pm prompt with 82 players.
After 35 mins play we had our first casualty, Dave Prior from The Phoenix. Top Lady for the day was Marina Challis from The Borough Arms in 13th place.
At 7pm we had our final table of 9 and qualifiers for Birmingham in September.
Just after 8pm we were heads up, Eddie from Chiswick Snooker Club and Richard The Dunmow Club.
It was not long before we had our showdown hand, Eddie King Jack, Richard Ace 10, the flop 7, Ace, 5, Turn a Jack and river an 8. Richard winning the £500 and Crystal Trophy with a pair of Aces.
Congratulations Richard! We'll see you at the National!
Another season over and another Quarterly final begins, with it being the last chance of the year to qualify through to the National final, and with 3 places up for grabs it was hotly contested as usual. After a few "stubborn" hours we were down to the final table with Paul Cornet, Stuart McDonald, Ian Paterson, Sean McDonald, David Low, Leslie Watson, Gary Mitchell, Andrew Harrison, Martin Dines and Andrew Thomson all progressing.
So with our final table under way we sadly lost Paul Cornet, Gary Mitchell, Ian Paterson, Leslie Watson and Stuart McDonald respectively. David Low and Sean McDonald finished in 5th and 4th but picked up small cash consolations in £60 and £40.
Andrew Thomson, Andrew Harrison and Martin Dines were our qualifiers but how would they finish.....well Martins A 9 of diamonds would lose out to Andrew H's pocket 5's with Andrew flopping a 5. So it was the 2 Andy's who were left to battle it out for the trophy and it would be Andy Harrison who calling all in with J 7 of spades with Andy Thomson Calling with Jh,10d with the flop coming 2 6 7, Andy H was ahead, with a 3 hitting the turn and a K on the river Andy T had lost out on the chance of grabbing a second trophy this year and Andrew Harrison was declared the winner. Congratulations Andrew! See you in September!
10. Paul Cornet
9. Gary Mitchell
8. Ian Paterson
7. Leslie Watson
6. Stuart McDonald
5. David Low
4. Sean McDonald
3. Martin Dines
2. Andrew Thomson
1. Andrew Harrison
