The Champions Poker League hosts a series of tournaments on a weekly basis at locations throughout each county. Players at each location earn points in hopes of qualifying for our tournament finals.

Is it legal?
Yes. The Champions Poker League is a 100% legal pub poker league. For more information click here.

What type of poker do you play?
Champions poker league plays No-Limit Texas Hold'em with around 20 to 40 or more players in a single event. You'll earn points just for playing, with more points if you place in the top 16.

I don't know how to play poker, what should I do?
We list the basics of how to play poker on our website, but for more detailed tuition please don't be afraid to come along to one of our events, the tournament director and other players will be more than happy to teach you how to play.

What can I win?
The Champions Poker League and its subsidiaries offer two different kinds of tournament:

Play for points tournaments do not offer any prizes, with players receiving points instead.

Low stakes tournaments require a buy-in, but all the cash used to buy-in to the tournament is returned to the players in the form of prizes of up to £100. Players also receive points in the same manner as play for points venues.

The 'prize' for gathering these points is invitiations to the quarterly and national finals, held at prestigious venues across the UK. At each of these finals large cash prizes will be available, with the national final's grand prize being an all expenses paid poker holiday worth £6000!

Do I have to pay to play?
Play for points venues do not charge you to play, the tournament is 100% free, but low stakes venues will require you to pay a buy-in of up to £5 depending on the venue and the number of players. This buy-in is used to create the prizes on the night.

Can I play for money I want to?
Only if the venue is a low stakes venue and you are playing the organised tournament. There are strict guidelines regarding pub poker, and by playing an unsupervised game you might be putting yourself and the venue at risk of legal action.

What does it mean when you say "part of the Champions Poker League"?
Each pub chain which joins the Champions Poker League has the option to have their own sub-brand created exclusively for their venues. This allows a chain to offer special events and deals specifically to players from their venues, whilst still letting players compete as part of a larger league. All points from each Champions Poker League sub-brand count towards the same leaderboard.

Are points from different sub-brands worth different amounts?
No, point allocations are uniform across all sub-brands. You will not earn more points playing at one venue than playing at another.

Where can I play?

See our online schedule for a complete schedule of weekly tournaments.

Can I play in more than one venue?
Of course! We encourage our players to play in as many venues as possible, as it all goes towards their national leaderboard total, increasing their chances of qualifying through to our fantastic quarterly and annual finals.

What if I can't play in more than one venue? How am I supposed to compete with people who can play in one every night?
Don't worry, that's what our venue and averaged leaderboards are for. The top players from each venue, as well as the players with the highest average scores nationally will also get invited through to the quarterly finals, so playing regularly in one venue and scoring high will give you a shot at qualifying too.

How do I keep track of my points?
By checking our online standings which have the top players listed. Point totals are updated as they are received and entered. All sub-brands use the main Champions Poker League site for their national, averaged and venue leaderboards.

The points from my venue haven't been updated! Are you sleeping on the job?

Updating the points is up to the tournament director or pub manager, not Champions Poker League itself. If your points have not yet been updated contact your tournament director or pub manager and remind them!

How do the forum posting wildcard entries work?
The player who post the most *relevant* forum postings each month will receive an invitation through to their local quarterly final. No single person can win more than once per season.

What do you mean by *relevant* forum postings?
Posts must be relevant to the discussion and not offensive in any way. Spam posting to increase post count or posting offensive (racist, sexist or abusive) messages will result in the poster's accounts being suspended or banned. Decisions' regarding what constitutes spam or abuse and how to deal with offenders is entirely the responsibility of the forum administrators.

So I can't swear then?
We would prefer it if you did not, but we also understand that Champions Poker League is an exclusively adult community and as such you will not be penalized for swearing on the forums unless it is directed at another person in an abusive manner. Again this is up to the discretion of the forum administrator and their decision is final.

How will I be notified if I qualify for the quarterly or national final?
Quarterly final winners will receive a notifying email and text message, provided the email and mobile phone numbers they provided when signing up to the league are correct. If you are not sure whether your details are correct you can contact us with your membership number and name, giving us your current details and we will update our database accordingly.

National final qualifiers will usually be notified during the quarterly final in which they qualified, but will be sent reminder emails and text messages prior to the final itself, confirming their position.

There is a venue near me not currently running Champions Poker League poker and I think it would be a great place for a poker night! What should I do?
Contact us! We are always pleased to hear about new venues. If you feel up to it, why not have a chat to the venue's landlord or manager and direct him towards the Champions Poker League site, or the site of his corresponding pub chain? It can't hurt!

Jonathan 'raz' Stewart is top of the national leaderboard, with 2754 points. Click here to see the full leaderboards.
